Edward Michael Loftus an 18 year old schoolteacher from Meelick, Swinford , County Mayo enlisted into the 2nd West Yorkshire Regiment at York in 1897 . He served in South Africa from October 1899 and was Wounded on 24/02/1900 at Tugela Falls . He was discharged as no longer physically fit on the 23rd of March 1901
